Step1 Warmup & Leadin (05 mins)

Class begins. Good morning, class! Sit down please. 

Before our new lesson, let’s review some learning ways we have learned. Look at the screen. Let’s read these phrases together: take notes, use flashcards, use learning apps, watch learning videos, create mind maps, listen to the podcast. 

Great! Look at this picture. What is she doing? Yes, she is making a podcast.

Step 2 3a Reading & 3b Task (6‑17 mins)

Today we will read a podcast interview and learn about what an active learner is. Open your books and turn to activity 3a. This is a podcast interview between Ella and her guest Binbin. Please read the passage silently for 3 minutes. Think about this question: Why did Ella invite Binbin to her podcast? Start reading.

Time’s up. Who can answer the question? 

She invites Binbin to give some ideas for learning English.

Perfect. Now let’s read the interview together. Ready, go.

Now look at activity 3b on your screen. Here are top tips for learning English actively. Please read these five tips. Then tick the tips Binbin follows in the podcast. You also need to think about your own learning habits. You have 4 minutes. Go ahead.

Step 3 3c Practice & 3d Role‑play (17‑30 mins)

Boys and girls. Now we know what active learners are. Let’s do activity 3c. Read four short descriptions A‑D. Find out who are active learners. Work alone for 3 minutes.

Time is over. Let’s check answers. A, B and C are active learners. D is not, because Cathy puts off her work.

Right. Active learners use knowledge and take action for their study.

Next, activity 3d. We will listen to the podcast interview audio. Then you will role‑play the dialogue with your deskmate. First, I will play the audio. Please listen carefully.

OK, audio ends. Now work in pairs. One is Ella, the other is Binbin. Role‑play the interview. You can look at the text. You have 4 minutes. I will walk around and help you.

Step 4 3e Group discussion, Summary & Homework (30‑40 mins)

Now activity 3e. Let’s move from English to other subjects. Work in groups of four. Please discuss how you can learn other subjects actively, such as maths, physics, history and geography. You can use the example sentences on the screen. You have 4 minutes.

Time is over. Which group wants to share your ideas? Group Two, please.

For physics, I do small experiments to connect knowledge with real life.

For history, I make mind maps to remember key events.
