Step1 Warm‑up & Lead‑in (0‑5 mins)

Class begins. Good morning, class!Sit down please. In this unit, we have learned many inspiring people. Today we are going to learn Vocabulary in Use.

Look at the picture on the screen. Who is she? Yes, It’s Marie Curie. 

What does she do?Perfect. She is a scientist, physicist and chemist.

Let’s watch a video and learn more about her.

Step2 Word‑building Activity 2a (6‑20 mins)

Now please open your books, turn to activity 2a. We need to circle the correct words to finish sentences. And then find more words with the suffixes ‑ist, ‑er, ‑ian.

First, please finish 2a by yourselves. Circle the right word in each sentence. You have 3 minutes. Go ahead.

Step3 Word‑form practice 2b (20‑30 mins)

Boys and girls, now move to activity 2b. We have five sentences. We need to change the words in the box into their correct forms to fill blanks.

Words in box: spread, wise, elder, calendar, radio.

Please read every sentence first, think about word forms. Finish this exercise alone in 4 minutes. Start.

In today’s lesson, we will know another famous women Amelia Earhart, a famous pilot. Let’s watch a video about her first. 

Now look at 2c. We have a word box: look up to, pioneer, courage, pilot, come true, encourage.

T: Please read the whole passage and fill in blanks with right words. You have 4 minutes.

Amelia Earhart was always a brave child, full of courage. Her parents supported and encouraged her to be herself. After taking her first flight in a plane, she knew that she wanted to become a pilot more than anything else in the world. Later, she worked hard to pay for her own flying lessons. In 1922, she flew higher than any woman had done before. Earhart is best known for being a flight pioneer as the first woman to fly on her own across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. She became famous around the world. Many people look up to Earhart and find her an inspiring person because of her efforts to work hard and her ability to make her dreams come true.

Quick summary for today. We learned three suffixes for job words:‑ist,‑er,‑ian. We also practiced changing word forms, and read a short story about Amelia Earhart. All these people show us: girls can shine in all walks of life. If we work hard, our dreams can come true.
